Homemade Luxury Soap Method
Before you begin making this homemade shampoo, take a moment to read the Make Homemade Soap Process. In this overview you will see photos and obtain a good feel for the basic soap making procedure (cold process).
The page importantly describes how to quicken the trace stage (thickening stage) using a stick blender.
Method
- Make sure the room that you are making this homemade luxury soap in is well ventilated.
- Oil a plastic mould and then line it with greaseproof paper.
- In a large stainless steel pan, melt the pomace, sweet almond, sunflower, coconut, palm and calendula oils with the beeswax over a low heat.
- Put on protective eyewear, mask, apron and long rubber gloves. Pour the mineral water into a plastic bucket. Slowly, add the lye, using a plastic spatula to stir until its dissolved.
- Use two jam thermometers, one for the lye mix and one for the oil mix. Make sure you are wearing the protective clothing.
- When both mixtures equalise at 131 F (55 C) immediately pour the lye mix into the oils and stir continuously for about 15 mins.
- Continue to stir until it has thickened enough, when a bit of the soap is drizzled over the top it leaves a line/ trace.
- Pour in the lime, sweet orange, may chang and frankincense essential oils and sir thoroughly. Add the calendula petals and stir until they are spread out evenly.
- Pour the mixture into the mould that you prepared before. You can now make a pattern on the soap by dragging a fork across the surface to make a ripple, or you can create your own.
- Leave it covered with cardboard, in a warm, dry place for 24 hrs in order for it to set.
- Line a wooden board with greaseproof paper, put some protective gloves on and turn the soap out onto the board.
- Use a carving knife to cut the handmade soap into bars about 4 oz (100g). Put them into a tray lined with greaseproof paper and leave for four weeks in a warm dry place.
- Turn them occasionally.
