Homemade Facial Cleanser
This is a great little homemade facial cleanser for anyone who prefers to wash their face rather than using creams or oils. It will lather up just like soap, but won’t leave your skin feeling tight and dry.
Because it’s a very gentle and a natural cleaner it’s suitable for the whole family to use. You can keep this cleanser in the bathroom and use it directly from the bottle just like you would any liquid soap. Use within one month.
Ingredients
Choose one of the following herbs to suit your skin type
All skin types: chamomile-comfrey-elderflower-linden flower-nettle
Normal to dry: lady’s mantle-marshmallow
Normal to oily skin: fennel-lemon balm-rosemary
Oily skin: sage-mint-yarrow
1 tablespoon soapwort
2 tablespoons dried (teabag can be used) or 6 tablespoons fresh chopped chosen herb
2 1/2 pints (1.5 litres) mineral water
Method
Place the soapwort root and your chosen herb into a saucepan, add the mineral water, cover and gently bring to the boil.
Let the soapwort mixture simmer for five minutes and then remove it from the heat and leave to cool.
Strain the liquid, pressing down well.
Transfer to bottles and use this soapwort cleanser as you would any liquid soap.

Hello Savvyhomemade members! Here I have a really good two-in-one homemade cleanser and moisturizer which helps me to soften some of my dry skin around my face, leaving it lovely and soft! Now you can use it on normal skin as well, just to give you that refreshing boost to your skin. You’ll see the glow in your face, I promise you!
Anyways, the two main ingredients are Jojoba and Grapeseed oils, which from what I’ve read have wonderful cleansing properties; but at the same time, they wont dry out your skin!
You can store this in a small sterilized bottle or jar. But I would recommend storing it in a darker place, to preserve the essential oil’s aroma. However it’ll last around three months regardless.
Your going to need the following:
- 3tbsp (45ml) of Jojoba oil
- 2tsp (10ml) of Grapeseed oil
- 1 drop of Geranium essential oil (geranium essential oil smells beautiful!)
First, throw in all of the ingredients into a small bottle or jar. Pop on a lid or cap tightly and shake to mix all the oils as well as you can. Make sure they are mixed thoroughly, otherwise it wont turn out as well as you’d hope.
Now, when you come to use it, apply sparingly with a cotton ball. Smooth it over the skin of your face gently, which will cleanse your skin. After, you can massage a drop into your skin which will moisturize and soften dry or normal skin.
Grapeseed and Jojoba are vital to this recipe, because they’re filled with loads of vitamins and minerals which do wonders to your skin. It’ll sooth and moisturize without making it greasy or dry, which is a big problem with some products you can buy.
When I first discovered this I was shocked at how easy it was to make and how quickly I was able to start applying it. And above all, I was shocked at how well it worked! And now I’m hoping you can have the benefits of this beauty of a cleanser and moisturizer as well!
Good luck and happy making!

Toner made from every day ingredients
This very quick astringent to makeup, in fact it's as easy as making a cup of tea and you'll start to see a reduction in the openness of your pours almost immediately.
This astringent recipe is best stored in the refrigerator which helps give it a sharp contacting effect. The vinegar removes any bacteria and dirt from within the pores whilst the chamomile gently sooths the skin.
For best results, use each day after cleansing.
What you will need
1 chamomile herbal tea bag
8 fl oz (250ml) boiling water
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
Method
Pop the teabag into a heat proof jug or bowl then pour over the boiling water, cover and leave to cool.
Once cool remove the tea bag and add the cider vinegar, then transfer the liquid into a clean jar or bottle.
For best results, use each day after cleansing. Either moisten a cotton ball with the toner and wipe over the face or pour a small amount onto the palm of your hands and splash it over your face and pat dry with a towel.
