While over at a friends house recently I experienced a wonderful aroma emanating from her essential oil diffuser. At that point I loved my homemade incense sticks and my DIY reed diffuser, but I’d never tried a diffuser before.
She was so excited about this little machine that she sparked my interest a little and I have to say the smell was wonderful!
I was thinking to myself that Iv’e collected a nice collection of quality essential oils over the years (many used in making my homemade beauty recipes), and as they were already sitting there in my workroom I thought that I may as well put them to a second use. And as you all know I love to experiment a little!
I’m truly surprised at how well these little units work and even more by the benefits they bring.
I researched a little and selected one of the many essential oil diffusers online and below I’ve written more about my choice and my experience with it along with some nice blends that I now use regularly.
But first I just want to provide a little info for readers that could be new to aromatherapy, and those experienced in aromatherapy who could be looking to turn it up a notch?
Why Use An Oil Diffuser?
People around the world have been reaping the benefits of aromatherapy for thousands of years and in today’s world, the best investment you can make in aromatherapy is using an oil diffuser.
Oil diffusers fill a space like a scented candle does, but they are a more subtle presence in your room. Their benefits are wide-ranging.
Once you get an oil diffuser, you’ll be on your way to living a life that is better all around, from your mind to your emotions to your pocket.
Here’s how.
Fresh Air, Indoors
Some situations in life are obviously not best for breathing. Standing next to an exhaust pipe, for instance, is not ideal for your lungs.
You might think being inside saves you from the pollution that does damage to your breathing.
Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. That stuffy air you sense in the winter when the windows are closed? It doesn’t just feel stuffy. It actually presents health threats that can cause harm to your cardiovascular system.
Luckily, you don’t need to travel to a deserted meadow to find air that is healthy for your lungs. Oil diffusers help freshen the air around you by dispersing oil into the, providing you some relief on those extra-stuffy days.
In spring time, an oil diffuser can clear the air of any substances that are bugging your allergies. The diffuser opens up your sinuses and airways, making breathing easier on you than it would be without a diffuser.
This means that any cold or sinus issue you might have will be helped by a diffuser. It’s a good first step before doling out money on expensive medication.
Set the Mood You Want
The wide variety of natural oils means a wide variety of results with your diffuser.
There are a lot of options when you’re buying oil online. Some oils are better before bed, while others are good for reading a book in the afternoon.
Any oil diffuser will create a soothing smell. That smell should make you feel better all by itself. It’s important to figure out the right oil for you. Once you find yourself enjoying the smell, you are benefitting in more ways than one.
The right smell can do even more for you, in recent years, scientists have drawn the connection between scent and mood.
That’s right–if you smell the right thing, just like if you see or taste it, your brain creates a happiness sensation for you.
Drive down Costs with an Oil Diffuser
Every summer, poorly insulated homes rely on air conditioners to create a cool environment.
As the cool air seeps out, the air conditioners have to run 24/7 to allow you and your family to sleep, relax and enjoy the home properly. This is all fine until one month, you open the electricity bill in the mail.
Yikes! It’s double, or maybe even tripled!
Don’t worry–you can avoid this. Certain kinds of oil diffusers are meant to cool the atmosphere of your room. Turn on your diffuser and let the minty oils spread throughout the air in the room. Space will feel calm and cooled.
That means those summer evenings can be cool, without the anxiety of paying for the electricity used by a non-stop air conditioner.
Bye Bye Bugs
If the personal benefits to your mood and ambiance of oil diffusers aren’t enough, consider one more important one: getting rid of those annoying critters.
You’ve tried everything to get them away, but some insects always seem to find a way back. Whether they’re fruit flies or silverfish or mosquitos, some bugs seem to always end up in your house when it’s warm.
Spraying your whole house down with Raid seems like a good way to damage the bug populations and your family.
Using an oil diffuser for the same purpose is a much safer bet.
Some oils are engineered to repel bugs, a combination of Citronella and Lemongrass usually does the trick for me.
Good news, then: the same oils that provide health benefits to you will also keep annoying bugs out of your house.
A Safer (and Cleaner) Home
The use of oil diffusers is a safer alternative to homemade scented candles in many ways.
In general, the presence of candles in your home creates a greater likelihood of a fire. That’s not to say that you are irresponsible with your home. But, at some point, you’ll probably have somebody over who won’t be so aware of the dangers of candles.
They might be a kid. Or a pet.
If a candle is knocked over, it probably won’t start a fire, but you will have to clean candle wax off the ground.
An oil diffuser deflects this issue on two fronts. The first is that it doesn’t require any open flames, however small. So, if a diffuser happens to fall over, or if it gets knocked over, there is no risk of fire.
Even better: oil diffusers don’t have to be a place that is easily accessible. You would never put your candle in a location where it might easily start a fire, or where it was hard to reach.
But with an oil diffuser, that is perfectly OK.
Oil diffusers are easier to place in locations that do not allow access to anybody that might not have such a good sense of fires.
My Oil Diffuser
Of course, there are hundreds of kinds of oil diffusers at different prices. After researching I found that they all do a similar job, and in the end I opted for the Mofado essential oil diffuser as it had a special offer on at the time. But the VicTsing oil diffusers available on Amazon were probably higher rated higher and a very popular choice.
The thing I love about the Mofado is that it has seven different mood color lights, you can set it to rotate through them or just choose just one color and you can also adjust the brightness.
The unit has variable running times 1 hour, 3, 6 and on constantly. It shoots out the mist at an angle which is perfect and the mist has two speed settings along with an automatic shut off when empty, great if you are new to diffusing.
This little unit is perfect for a single use room, I have mine mostly in the living room but as they are not expensive I’m thinking of getting a second for the bedroom. At the time of purchase, there was a 10% off code for two or more units (10MOFADO), but this might only be a temporary thing.
I’m Surprised By The Power
I was amazed at the power of this unit, it really does give off a strong aroma. To give you an example of how efficiently it cleans the air I made a strong curry for an evening meal just a day or so after buying this unit, later I had the Mofado running for a few hours.
As we all know a curry aroma usually lingers on and you can smell the after-effects the next day and beyond. But I came down the next morning and to my surprise it was gone, nothing… I was honestly amazed!
How To Use This Oil Diffuser
Simply remove the top and fill with water to the inside line
Add a few drops of your chosen essential oil
Replace the top and switch on
So as you can see this is very easy to use, and the only upkeep with the Mofado is that you need to clean it once a week. Simply unplug it from the power, empty any water from the and gently clean it with a soft cloth and cleaning detergent but don’t use strong chemical cleaners just use a simple gentle detergent.
