About The Ingredients I’m Using
Ecosilk ( Isoamyl Cocoate)
Ecosilk is a natural ingredient thats been derived from coconut fatty acids. It’s often used as a natural alternative to silicones like dimethicone. Ecosilk helps the other oils absorb quickly into the skin, taking away that heavy, oily feel. If you want a body oil that feels light, smooth and almost powdery on the skin, this is the ingredient you want to use.
Fractionated Coconut Oil
A lovely lightweight oil that keeps everything feeling smooth and glidey. It’s very stable, has a long shelf life, and doesn’t feel greasy on the skin. It also helps carry the other oils and makes the spray feel more fluid and easy to apply.
Camellia Seed Oil
This is one of our favorite oils to use in oil based products. It’s deeply moisturizing yet very light, so it sinks in beautifully without leaving that greasy layer. It’s packed with antioxidants that help give dull skin a natural boost, leaving the skin feeling nourished and healthy.
Sweet Almond Oil
What’s not to like about sweet almond oil? It’s a great all round oil that just works beautifully in almost any blend. It’s gentle, nourishing and suits most skin types, which makes it a lovely base for a dry body oil spray like this.
Grape Seed Oil
Grape seed oil is one of those lovely lightweight oils that feels almost invisible on the skin, which is why it works so well in our dry body oil. It absorbs quickly, so you get all the nourishment without that heavy or greasy feeling. It also gives the body oil a silky, glide on feeling, helping the oil spread beautifully across the skin without needing much product at all.
Vitamin E
The vitamin E has two functions in our recipe. Firstly it stops the oils going rancid so it keeps the oil smelling fresh and lovely, whilst prolonging the shelf life of the product. Secondly, it’s also lovely and soothing, which makes it a great little addition for dry or slightly sensitive skin. In a body oil like this, it helps boost that silky, nourishing feel, leaving your skin soft, comfortable and well looked after, while also helping to support your skin’s natural barrier.
Fragrance Oil
We made the decision which wasn’t an easy one to go with a fragrance oil rather than an essential oil here. As this is a dry summery body oil, and we were making it on a warm sunny day, a coconut cream fragrance oil just felt right. And I have to say, it smells amazing. That said you can substitute this for an essential oil if you want to keep it natural.
Substitutions
- Ecosilk ( Isoamyl Cocoate) you could add 10%, that’s 10grams in this recipe. Then make up the other 20% with the fractionated coconut oil and camellia seed oil.
- Fractionated Coconut Oil, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate would be a great substitute
- Camellia Seed Oil
- Sweet Almond Oil, apricot kernel is very similar and would make an easy substitute.
- Grape Seed Oil, rosehip seed oil would be lovely
- Vitamin E. stops the oils going rancid, giving the product a longer shelf life.Rosemary CO2 extract is the closest swap in terms of function. However it has a strong rosemary scent and the usage rate is much lower. Use 0.05–0.2% → for this recipe its about 0.05–0.2
- Essential Oil/Fragrance Oil, choose your own scent blend to suit

How to use it
Give the bottle a quick shake, then lightly mist onto your skin. We found It’s best to apply straight after a shower or bath while your skin is still slightly damp, this helps lock in moisture and leaves your skin feeling extra soft.
Use your hands to smooth it in, it will absorb quickly without leaving a greasy layer. A little goes a long way, so start with a small amount and add more if needed.
The oils we have chosen are suitable for everyday use or for whenever your skin needs a boost of hydration. It’s also lovely for adding a soft glow to the skin, especially on arms and legs.
Note this an oil based product so do be careful on floors as they may become slippy.
Storage
Stored in a dark bottle, and away from heat or direct sunlight the body oil will last for around 6 months.
