I love how once you’re done with one layer, you have a whole new one below with a different fragrance and look to it. It’s a lot of fun, and definitely a recipe that your teenage girls will absolutely love!

First, weigh out your granulated sugar and separate it evenly into 2 bowl. Next, weigh out your brown or golden sugar and place that in a third bowl.
300 grams Granulated Sugar, 150 grams Brown or Golden Sugar
Weigh out the coconut oil and melt it in a waterbath. To set up a waterbath, simply place a pan of water on to boil and then remove from the heat. Place a pyrex beaker with your coconut oil into the water and allow to melt.Once melted, remove from the waterbath and split it evenly across the 3 bowls of sugar. Each bowl should have about 36g of the coconut oil. Then add 5g of the macadamia nut oil to each of the bowls.
108 grams Coconut Oil, 15 grams Macadamia Nut Oil
Now, a few pinches of the beetroot powder/red mica to one of the bowls of ordinary granulated sugar. Then, add a few pinches of the brown mica to your bowl of brown/golden sugar. Mix thoroughly. If you really want to make the vanilla layer a little more yellow, you can add a bit of yellow mica (or even a tiny amount of brown). But I don’t always think this is necessary. If you use golden sugar instead of ordinary granulated for this layer you can achieve the same effect, but it isn’t really necessary.
Mica Powders
Add your fragrance oils to the corresponding bowls. Chocolate to the brown/golden sugar, strawberry to the granulated sugar with beetroot powder/red mica and lastly vanilla to the undyed granulated sugar. Mix thoroughly. You should now have three bowls gorgeous smelling body scrubs!
Now we have to layer this bad boy. I prefer to start with chocolate, then vanilla and finally strawberry. As this recipe has a bit of liquid oil, you can sometimes get some seeping between the layers. As chocolate has a rich brown colour, putting it at the bottom makes it far less likely to spoil the colors of the layers above. Use the back of your spoon to smooth out the sugar between layers.
Notes:
As this DIY body scrub does not contain a preservative, I find it best to store this away from the bathroom. I have an en suite bathroom, and so keep this on my vanity table. I’ll use a spoon to scoop some out and then take that into the bathroom.
If you really want to store this close to your tub or shower, you may want to add a broad specrum preservative at 1%, but make sure to follow the manufacturer guidelines.
