20 Ways To Start Your Day Right And Live Your Best Life At Any Age


Nothing feels better than having the best day of your life. Small moments can make you really happy and smile a lot. Whether it’s celebrating exciting events or getting amazing gifts, there are things that can put you in a good mood and make any day a great one.

However, a good day is something you can achieve, not just wait for. Try some morning rituals to turn your day around. This way, you can fully enjoy what life has to offer. 

So, there are many rituals you can do the moment you wake up, and we’ve put together a special list so you can have a positive day.

1. Skip the Snooze Button

If you’re like me, you might want to hit the snooze button as soon as the alarm goes off. Even if it gives you an extra five minutes, you should get up on your feet instantly.

Seize the day from the first alarm chirp. Struggling to rise and shine? Here’s the 5-second rule: count to five and get out of bed, even if you’re dragging. If you still feel tired, hack your routine and preset your coffee machine to start with your alarm. The delicious aroma will be a tempting reason to jump up and conquer your day.

2. Have a Nice Stretch

As simple as it is, a quick stretch can do wonders for your morning routine. As soon as I wake up, I usually greet the day, sit up in bed, and reach for the sky with a big stretch. This simple move makes you feel refreshed and wake up happy.

A good stretch energizes your mind and body. It helps you prepare for the day—perfect prep for a quick workout or just conquering your to-do list.

3. Do a Quick Workout

A quick workout can make you feel awesome all morning. After a nice stretch, I usually get my body moving with an (extremely) short sweat session. Take your pick: cardio, Pilates, or yoga? Even 20 jumping jacks will do the trick.

Exercise helps your body release endorphins, which can make you feel better. Endorphins aid in alleviating pain, stress, and improve state of mind. Take a moment out of your morning to move your body.

4. Read Affirmations

Daily affirmations help to make your day right. It gives you motivation and purpose to look forward to the day. Words of affirmation allow you to get into a better mindset and practice the law of attraction, encouraging a good mood for the rest of your day. 

There are multiple outlets to read affirmations. You can buy a self-help book or search for them online. On the other hand, I love to write my own short motivational affirmations and place them around my home. One great place for them is on the bathroom mirror or on your computer screen.

5. Begin With Appreciation

A little gratitude goes a long way. Before you jump into your day, take a beat to appreciate the good stuff.

No pressure, it doesn’t have to be a Nobel Prize acceptance speech. Just a quick “thank you” for the things that matter: Your cozy home, the love of your family, good health, or the delicious breakfast you just had. Being thankful allows you to be humble and cherish everything that you have. 

6. Drink a Glass of Water

Feeling foggy-brained and sluggish? It might not be your fault. It turns out that staying hydrated is like hitting the nitro button for your brain. Yep, water is seriously that powerful. A glass of water before breakfast can also help stimulate your metabolism.

Drinking water every morning is ideal since you must drink 8-10 glasses daily. If you’re feeling a bit fancy, try lemon water for additional health benefits. I like drinking water out of a wine glass, just to make it fun. If I’m really feeling it, I may even put some raspberries or some blueberries in.

7. Set Your Goals

You need to have something to look forward to each day. It helps to motivate yourself and keep going. It’s best to look at your goals as a part of your morning ritual. 

Set goals for the day in the morning to completely transform your attitude and mindset towards your long-term aspirations. Think of it like creating a daily adventure list—what will you conquer today? It could be the book you’ve always wanted to start, a new recipe to try, or a new language that you want to learn.

Stress can give you negative thoughts. It’s great to start with a clear head, allowing positive energy to come through. Meditation can help give you a better perspective and help you start your day right. 

Meditation is quick and easy to squeeze into your morning routine. I like to sit down just after I wake up for 3-5 minutes to really center myself and set myself up for a successful day. I try to clear my mind and focus on my breathing. 

9. Take a Walk

A short walk in the morning is a great way to wake up naturally. It lets you see the beauty of life and gets your body moving. 

You can take a quick walk to the park or your office. When you walk, slow down and enjoy your surroundings. Try to appreciate the cool air, the sun on your face, and the small things that stand out to you.

10. Enjoy the Sunlight

You can begin your day by enjoying the sunlight. The sun starts your day, lights up your home, and gives you a fresh beginning. Seeing the sun is usually my favorite part of the day as it feels refreshing and new.

You can open your curtains and let the sunlight shine through your home. Take a deep breath, and get ready for a brand new start.

11. Prepare a Healthy Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It helps fuel your body and mind, allowing for a productive day. While it’s tempting to grab cereal or skip breakfast, giving yourself a healthy meal is best.

There are plenty of quick and easy breakfast recipes online that you can try. Alternatively, I like to munch on a fresh banana if I’m running late and don’t have time to make my usual oatmeal.  

12. Keep Your Phone Away

The world today revolves around technology, but that doesn’t mean you should start your day with it. When you wake up, refrain from checking your phone. Complete your morning ritual first before you get back to your reality.

Your phone’s notifications can distract you from your daily goals and even impact your mood. I silenced all my notifications on my phone, only my work-related Slack notifications will go through. And I even have these turned off after 8 p.m.

13. Take a Shower

A quick shower allows you to fully wake up your body and get yourself ready for the day. It could be fast but still comforting. 

If you’re up for it, use cold water when you shower. The chilly temperature helps to wake you up quickly, increase circulation, and give your hair an added glow.

14. Practice Proper Skin Care

Good skincare can help boost your mood. As a part of your morning ritual, focus on your well-being. Proper skincare will help to improve your skin texture and make you feel good about yourself. 

Every morning, wash your face and apply sunscreen to your face and body to protect your skin. You can also use toners and serums, depending on your skincare routine.

You can say “I love you” to your spouse, children, or friends. If you’re not too verbal when showing some love, express it in physical form. You can write a note, give a cup of coffee, or a quick hug. The people in your life will appreciate it, and you will feel better in turn.

It never hurts to be kind. Doing an act of kindness can spread positivity to your surroundings. Also, doing good can help to lift your mood. 

You can give food to those in need, open the door for older people, or pick up litter. Being kind doesn’t have to be extravagant, a small act of kindness can go a long way. You’ll surprise yourself with how it can make you feel good to be nice to somebody else.

There should be something to keep you happy and occupied. Apart from work and your usual duties, having a hobby is ideal. It could be knitting, drawing, or cooking. 

Doing your hobby in the morning can help to set your mood for the rest of the day. It starts your day right and is full of happiness and motivation. Personally, I like to really take the time to make my breakfast in the morning. I make it a point to spend some time on that and don’t rush myself to start working right when I wake up.

I love to read a couple of pages when I’m having breakfast. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a fiction book, but I try to read non-fiction that will teach me something tangible.
