11 Ways To Care For Your Skin Naturally In Your 40s, 50s and Beyond

If you’re looking for a way to improve your skin health, following a consistent daily skincare routine and living by a few simple rules can work wonders. But making your skin look and feel fantastic doesn’t have to break the bank!

You probably don’t need expensive products or cosmetic surgery. Just try to prioritize the following simple natural solutions, and you can get that amazing complexion you always wanted. And the great news is you get even more than that. You will also reflect that same ethos in an enhanced overall well-being.

1. Cleanse Gently

It’s important to cleanse daily before you use a moisturizer. Massage your cleanser into your skin using small circles, rinse with water, and pat dry with a soft towel.

For a natural cleanse, I recommend that you make your own cleanser. For example, micellar water is perfect for getting makeup and daily grime off your face, and it’s so easy to make with a combination of hydrolol water and some glycerin!

2. Hydrate Naturally

It’s important to keep your skin hydrated, so make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day. Most people don’t drink enough or understand how important this is for your skin!

And don’t forget to moisturize with a quality product that contains ingredients like shea butter or almond oil. They hydrate and nourish your skin without using harsh chemicals. Again, I would recommend making your own. DIY moisturizers are easier to make than you think and so much better than store-bought. And this way, you have total control over the ingredients you are putting on your skin!

3. Nourish from Within

Eating healthy helps your skin, too! Foods like fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds all contain vitamins and antioxidants that keep your skin glowing. Try adding colorful fruits and vegetables to your diet, like berries and spinach. They’re like superhero foods for your skin!

4. Protect with Natural Sunscreen

Always use a natural sunscreen product! I know we didn’t when we were younger, but it’s never too late! A friend once said she had been a sun worshipper for years, and it was too late for her to worry about it now.

Of course, we now understand that she was wrong! Every minute we stay in the sun without protection is aging our skin a little more. Not to mention the risk of skin cancer!

5. Incorporate Antioxidants

Antioxidants protect your skin from damage. You can find them in foods like green tea, berries, and foods that are rich in vitamin C. Antioxidants are also added to skincare products for their benefits and to help prevent oxidization of the product. Try making a xxx with one of these impressive ingredients!

6. Exfoliate Naturally

Proper exfoliation will leave your skin feeling refreshed & silky smooth. You can use several ingredients to exfoliate, but many believe it is okay to use plain old cane sugar. Not a good idea!

It is okay for the body, but for your face? Let me just say Micro Tears! So, I like to use Jojoba beads or Rapadora sugar in my face scrub recipes because they’re finer. I pair them with some lovely oils like Apricot and Coconut.

7.Use Herbal Remedies

We all know that herbs have special powers for your skin! Chamomile, for example, can soothe irritations, while calendula helps to heal your skin. You can use them in DIY skincare products or infusions for a natural boost.

8. Practice Facial Massage

Here’s a simple tip. While relaxing in the evening, reading, or watching a little TV, I like to massage my skin using a small amount of argan oil; that’s so relaxing. Obviously use another oil if you have a fav!

9. Get Adequate Sleep

Ladies (And I should also say guys!), sleep is so important for skin regeneration and healing. I know, I know, it’s not always possible with our busy modern lives. But try to have the odd early night or even an afternoon nap!

10. Protect Against Environmental Factors

Big city environments are a skin killer. Try to protect yourself against pollutants, dust, and grime. Wear a hat and long sleeves whenever possible. I know it sounds crazy over the top, but people with the best skin are known to cover UP; they just don’t talk about it

11. Practice Mindfulness & Relax

Similar to sleep, we all need a little relaxation and calm, quiet time in our lives. Practice a little yoga or mindfulness to ease stress, which is another giant skin killer.

Take a holiday, sit on a beach – obviously under a parasol, gotta cover up, ladies!
