Summertime Homemade Slug Zapper

by Tracey Demers
(Rocky River Ohio USA)

Easy Homemade Slug Repellent!.....You can save your old beer or just buy the really cheap stuff in cans to use as a homemade slug repellent for the garden.

Around dusk, pour the beer in shallow receptacles (think plastic container lids.) Place the shallow receptacles in areas where you have seen slugs.

In the morning you will wake up and find the slugs won't "be around any longer" to eat your garden.

Simple, cheap, Eco-friendly Slug Repellent...what more do you need.

Added tip: Throw the old beer on your lawn. The grass will love all the nutrients in the beer.

beer for slug control
by: Anonymous

Beer does not repel slugs, they crawl in and basically get drunk and die, so clean them out of your containers if you don't want to refill them.

You have to refill them after the rain. Use saucers or tuna/cat food containers flush with the groung. I agree, this is one of the most effective slug controls. You can use brewer's yeast with sugar and water just the same, I think it's cheaper, beer just seems more convenient.
