Make Your Own Fish Tank

Are you wondering if it's possible to make your own fish tank? When I was little I always loved to watch fish swimming around. They looked so serene and peaceful. Unfortunately in those days we couldn't afford to buy a big expensive aquarium, so I thought I wouldn't be able to keep fish for ages.

Then one day I was shopping with my mom and I saw a lovely round glass vase. It had a big round bulb at the bottom and a narrow hole at the top for the flowers to go into. It got me thinking that if I couldn't have a big aquarium, maybe I could have a little fresh water tank for some goldfish.

So I bought the glass vase and took it home. It was a lot bigger at home than it looked in the store. Then I went to the pet store and bought two of the smallest goldfish they had available.

The pet store also had a selection of colored pebbles and little bits of water plants. I told the lady what I had done with my idea of turning a glass vase into a fresh water fish tank and she cut off a small piece of water plant for me at no cost.

I chose to buy only a small bag of blue colored pebbles for the bottom of my fish tank so it didn't fill up too much and my fish would still have plenty of water.

When I got home, I arranged the pebbles on the bottom of the vase, put the water plant into the pebbles and filled up the tank with filtered rain water. I let it sit for about an hour, so the water was room temperature and then I put my new goldfish into the vase-turned-aquarium.

At first, I thought they'd die, but years after they were still swimming around happily in their cheap little glass fish tank.

If you love fish as much as I do, then you don't need to spend big dollars buying an expensive aquarium. You can simply make your own fish tank with a bit of imagination.

Nice, personal touch!
by: William

I love to work with my hands, and have been keeping fish as pets for decades now. I love how I can put a personal touch to my own fish tank. I swear my fish seem happier in something I've made myself! But that's probably just me being silly. Nevertheless, thanks for this great guide!
