Make Homemade Cat Toys

Cat toy

Wondering how you should safely make homemade cat toys? Domesticated kitties require tons of activity and stimulation in order to prevent them from attacking, scratching and eating your valuable furniture and other household items.

If you provide them enough things to occupy their curiosity and minds, they will be more likely to leave the off-limits items in the home alone.

A great way to achieve this is with toys. And it’s quite easy to make your own cat toys if you know what to implement into the design.

Cats like bright colors and things they can chew and attack, so it’s important that the materials you use are safe for kitty.

Ribbons and other materials that can shred or fall off of the toy and be ingested should not be used. These can easily be swallowed and become stuck in the digestive tract, causing your family a ton of stress and financial woes.

Simple Stick and Fabric

One of the best homemade pet toys is crafted using a stick and simple strips of felt fabric.

Simply tie a long strip of felt to a stick or old hanger – anything you can hold on to – and add additional short pieces of felt to the end of the original one to form a colorful burst of felt.

Now simply drag it along the floor or dangle it in the air, and watch your kitty attack it with delight!

Making The Toy Mouse

Another great toy creates the standard mouse that every kitty loves to play with.

First, find an old sock and stuff it with other old socks, standard filling, or other soft materials.

If you want to watch your kitty have an especially great day, add a little bit of catnip to the filling (or any of your homemade cat toys!).

Now tie or stitch the opening of the sock closed, and use a black marker to draw the nose and whiskers, eyes and ears on the mouse.

Your kitty will immediately be intrigued by the stuffed mouse, but will be unable to resist it if you add the catnip.

It’s best to leave the tail off of this mouse, as virtually any material could be pulled off and eaten by your kitty.

Always frequently check your cat toys for safety risks such as missing pieces, torn fabric or other repairs that should be performed. If you have a great idea for a do-it-yourself kitty toy, be sure to share it with the world and submit your own page!

We hope you enjoy these homemade cat toys, now take a look at these Homemade Cat Treats.
