Before we show you one of our favourite homemade spa recipes; did you know that you can quickly turn your 5 minute morning showers into therapeutic spa showers just by using the blitz-guss method?
So what is the blitz-guss method I hear you ask? Well it's just a posh name for turning the shower from hot to cold alternately.
Here's how it works, the hot water kick starts your circulation and helps relive any aching muscles, the cold water invigorates the mind and body and helps to reduce any inflammation.
By turning from one to the other at 30 second intervals, repeated 2 to 3 times towards the end of a shower, it will fuel the blood supply to your skin and help restore any lost tautness and vitality.
These homemade spa showers have also been known to prevent premature ageing of the skin, eliminate fatigue and strengthen the immune system if repeated each day.
So can you afford not to use this simple yet effective method?
Homemade foaming gel is quite difficult to make, however we can adapt a gentile unscented bubble bath base, or even a mild baby bubble bath into a wonderfully scented and therapeutic homemade shower gel just by adding a few drops of essential oil.
Take a look at our homemade perfume page or essential oils chart for a little inspiration on which oils to choose. The main thing to remember is that essential oils need to be protected from light, so l would recommend pouring some of the bath base into a dark plastic bottle before adding the oils.
Add the essential oils sparingly until you are happy with its scent; just remember you can always add more!
For refreshing fruity shower gel why not have a go at this berry shower gel? It has a great scent; it's very energizing and works particularly well on greasy skin, especially if you have a tendency to get spots on your back or chest.
The berries in this gel can be replaced with other fruits that you may have in your refrigerator. Try tropical fruits like pineapple or papaya which can improve skin texture and peaches or grapes that will sooth inflamed or blotchy skin.
As this shower gel contains fresh fruit it will need to be stored in the refrigerator and used within one week.
Blend all the ingredients together in a blender. Transfer to a dark bottle or jar then refrigerate overnight so that it can set.
For best results pour a small amount of the gel onto a soft bristled brush or sponge and gently rub over the skin, concentrating on your problem areas such as the back and chest.
