Homemade Silly Putty

What does homemade silly putty do?
Pull it slowly and it will stretch, quicker and it breaks. It feels like a solid, yet it can drip though a hole when its left standing. It bounces, yet it can also form a puddle!.... Pretty cool stuff don't you think?

Is Home made silly putty is hard to make?
No! and it only takes about 10 minutes.

What you need
1/2 a tsp of Borax
1/2 a cup of PVA glue
Water

Method
Add 1/2 a teaspoon of borax to 1/2 a cup of hot water and allow to dissolve for a few minutes.

In a bowl mix together 1/2 a cup of PVA glue with 1/2 a cup of water.
Making Homemade Silly Putty
Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of your borax mixture to your diluted glue mixture and begin to stir, this new mix should start to pull away from the sides and begin to form a rubbery putty.

Give your putty a good kneed to make it nice and smooth but if its still too slimy don't worry just add more borax mixture until you are happy with its constancy.

Brighton up your homemade silly putty with food coloring or glitter. You may want to use gloves to start with so that the food coloring doesn't stains your hands. But as the coloring soaks in you can take the gloves off. The putty is much easier and fun to handle without gloves (I found it just sticks to them anyway.)

Now transfer it to an airtight container or plastic bag for storage.

Fun with homemade silly putty
Try covering the top of a empty cup and with silly putty and watch it bubble up! Or put it inside the cup and squish it about to make some really disgusting noises. The last one seems to keep my ten year old amused for hours.

What fun things have YOU done with silly putty?
