Scrapbooking is a great hobby that many people enjoy. It is not only a wonderful way to express your creativity, but a homemade scrapbook is also a way to organize and celebrate your photos and memories.
Having stacks of photos around is alright, but it is even better when each photo is nicely mounted and labeled. This makes it easy to remember where you were, how old everyone was, and what you did.
Also, if you use the right supplies, a scrapbook is a better way to preserve your photos than just letting them sit around in boxes.
If you walk into a craft store and look at their scrapbooking supplies, you may feel a little overwhelmed.
There are so many different tools and tricks that you may not know where to start. Learning about the simple stuff is the best way to ease into this craft.
First, you will need a book for putting your pictures in. Most of these books will be 12" x 12" which gives you a good amount of space on each page to put lots of pictures and embellishments without them seeming crowded.
You can get many different types of books, so no matter what you like you will be able to find one that is just right. Many of these special scrapbooking tomes have real or faux leather on them, so they are as nice to look at as the pages inside.
After you choose your book, you will need to get things like paper, glue, and perhaps some embellishments. But you need to double check all your paper and glue to make sure that it is acid free. Many paper and adhesive products have acids in them that will cause your photos to discolor over the years, but non-acid products will prevent this from happening.
Most of what you find in special scrapbooking stores or aisles will be free of acid, but it is still a good idea to make sure. Look for a tag or sticker that says "acid free" or something similar.
You dont have to have a whole lot of scrapbooking supplies, tools and accessories to create a nice scrapbook, but having some is always fun. There are many types of hole-punches, embellishments, and ways to set your photos apart from the rest of the page.
Many people like starting out with a couple pairs of scrapbooking scissors that have special cutting edges on them. This makes scrapbook photo cropping and cutting paper a lot of fun.
Stamps are also a popular choice for beginning a scrapbook. There are many sets of stamps that can be used on many types of pages.
Once you get a few of the basics like scrapbook photo matting and creating a scrapbook focal point you will find that it's a fun and rewarding hobby to get started with.
You will have a lot of fun creating unique pages filled with good memories. Keep in mind that scrapbooks and pages for them also make great gifts, so you can share your projects with friends and family.
We'll have some more on scrapbooking for beginners soon, so don't forget to bookmark and return.
