Homemade Hurricane Candle Shell
I've recently had a go at making my own hurricane candle shell. Im not exactly what you would call an experienced candle maker, so I'm quite proud of how it has turned out. Anyway here is how a made it.
Firstly, I think I should mention that I used a ready mixed paraffin and stearin wax to make this hurricane candle shell.
1 Take a large container, it can be round or square it doesnt really matter as long as its heat resistant and wont leak.
2 Heat the wax up 180f/80c and then pour it into your container.
3 Wait until it has cooled sufficiently for a layer of wax to have formed around the edges (about 5mm/1/4 inch).
4 Pour out the excess melted wax from the middle, and leave to one side for later.
5 Once you have poured out the wax it takes about 8 minutes before it starts to harden. So you need to work quickly. Press the objects you’ve chosen to embed into the wax.
6 Pour the left over wax back in. Wait for a few minutes and then and pour it back out again.
7 Allow the hurricane candle to cool completely before removing it from the container.
8 Place a tea light inside the candle shell, stand back and admire!
