I love how soft my skin feels after a long, warm bath with some softening homemade bath salts. Unfortunately I couldn't always afford to buy the nice bath salts I really liked, so I found a great recipe to make my own. It saves me plenty of money and it feels even nicer than the store bought variety.
I also made some extra bath salt varieties to give as gifts to family members in pretty decorative jars. They loved them too.
You will need:
- 1 cup Epsom salts
- 1/4 cup sea salt
- 3 tablespoons baking soda
- 1 tablespoon finely ground oatmeal
- 8 drops lavender essential oil
- 8 drops red food coloring
- 4 drops blue food coloring
- Sealable glass container
Place all the dry ingredients into your glass container and seal the top. Shake the ingredients so they blend well.
Add the lavender fragrance until it suits how strong you like it. Then add some red and blue food coloring to the mixture. You'll need more red than blue to create a lovely lavender color inside the glass and you need to shake it around really well to make sure the color goes through the whole mixture.
When you've finished making your bath salts, you will have a lovely way to relax tired muscles and refresh yourself after a long week. You also have really pretty lavender colored salts inside the clear glass jar to show off in your bathroom. If I'm making gifts for friends, I'll decorate the jar with ribbon and sometimes even a nice printed label stuck to the front.
Vanilla Musk Bath Salts
Sometimes I feel like something a little more exotic, so I created a lovely homemade bath salts mixture of vanilla and musk bath salts that make the bathroom smell wonderful and makes my skin feel great.
- 1 cup Epsom salts
- 1/4 cup sea salt
- 3 tablespoons baking soda
- 1 tablespoon finely ground oatmeal
- 6 drops vanilla essential oil
- 6 drops musk essential oil
- red food coloring
- yellow food coloring
- Sealable glass container
Mix the dry ingredients together in a glass container and blend well. Add enough vanilla and musk to suit your preferences.
I divided my mixture into two portions and colored some of it plain yellow and the other half I colored orange by mixing red and yellow together. This way I can put layers of orange and yellow bath salts into the glass jar for a bit of decoration.
This homemade bath salts recipe with the pretty striped layers makes a great gift too.
