Home Made Wedding Invitations

There are several good reasons to make your own home made wedding invitations...

Aside from saving you money, homemade wedding invitations are far more personal and you can match the font and images to your wedding theme and colors.

As home printers and computer publishing programs become more advanced, it's becoming even easier to create your own professional-looking wedding invitations quickly and easily.

Here are some suggestions and videos for designing your own home made wedding invitations.

Homemade Wedding Invitations

Traditional Home Made Wedding Invitations

You will need:

  • Off-white or Parchment-colored card stock
  • Desktop publishing program for card design
  • Color-ink printer

Method

  1. Begin by designing a lovely motif or logo for the front of your invitation card. If you're aiming at a traditional wedding, then it's easy to find a silhouette image of a horse and carriage or some wedding bells for the front. You might also want to add the words 'Wedding Invitation' above or below the image.

  2. Choose a calligraphy script font that looks fancy but still must be easy to read for your font. You might also decide to match the printing color to your wedding's color scheme for a little more personalization.

  3. On the inside of your card, create the invitation without adding the guest's name. You should include your official invitation announcement, the time and date and the venue. You can hand-write the name of each guest into the card once you've finished printing.

  4. Remember you'll be printing on both sides of your card stock, so make sure you put the paper into the printer the right way to give you a card that can be folded and opened correctly.

  5. If you prefer, you can cut the front folding edge of your invitation with shaped shears or scissors. Craft shops have several designs to choose from to give you a scalloped edge which makes your stationery look a little fancier.
  6. You can also use the same design and theme to print out your own place cards and thank you cards.

Personalized Wedding Invitations

You will need:

  • Paper card stock
  • Colored ribbon to match your wedding color scheme
  • Dried flowers

Method

  1. Design your wedding invitations on your computer so you have the time, date and venue showing clearly.

  2. Leave the names of your guests off the printing so you can hand-write them in at a later point.

  3. Choose a fancy font that is easy to read and print out your cards.

  4. Use some tacky glue to stick a small display of dried flowers to the front of your card.

  5. Punch two holes into the top of your invitation and thread the ribbon through it.

  6. Tie the colored ribbon into a fancy bow at the top so your guests can hang your invitation in a prominent place to remind them of your impending big day.

  7. Other options for personalizing your wedding invitations include adding glitter, pre-cut foil shapes, lace or photographs of the happy couple.

Wedding Envelopes And Stationery

When you send out your wedding invitation, you should also include a courtesy envelope and response card so your guests can respond to your invitation. When you make your own, you can match the cards and envelopes to your invitation with the same personalized touches so everything matches.

This means sending out the wedding invitation and including inside the envelope a small card with the guest's name and response. These response cards should be small enough so that you can print 6 or 8 to a page of heavy paper stock that matches your invitations.

You can create tick-boxes easily on your Word processing program and request that your guests indicate their acceptance on this card.

You can also use the same paper stock to create easy envelopes that match the rest of your home made stationery. Envelopes are simply folded squares of paper glued down to form a little packet.

Include your own mailing address on the response envelope so that guests can return their response card to you easily.
