The Best Arthritis Home Remedy

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints that can become very painful and swollen at times particularly in damp cold conditions, in fact most suffers instinctively know when it's going to rain.

On a good note we have lots of soothing remedies, most of which have been used for years and with great results.

 

 

As there are two different types of arthritis; osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. I'd recommend you read though all of these home remedies, just to make sure you choose the best arthritis home remedy to suit your individual needs.

So let's take a quick look at the symptoms and possible causes of both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis before checking out any arthritis home remedy bellow.

 

Arthritis home remedy

Osteoarthritis (Symptoms)

Stiffness and pain in the joints, especially in the hip, knees, spine and hands which can eventually lead to difficulty in moving the joints, yet with no visible signs of swelling.

Inflammation of the muscles (one of the less common symptom)

Occasionally suffering with severe pain from any muscle or nerve damage that's been caused by bone spurs. (Osteoarthritis can cause the joints to deform and develop bone spurs, this abnormal bone growth can press on to surrounding muscles and nerves).

Causes

Although doctors are't 100% on what causes Osteoarthritis or even why it seems to affect more women than men, in general it seems to be a symptom of getting older. Other cause has been linked to joint injuries and family genes.

Rheumatoid arthritis (symptoms)

Painful swelling and stiffness in the arms, legs, wrists and fingers (usually on both sides of your body)

Symptoms tend to be more severe first thing in the morning.

Children often suffer with Low energy levels and loss of appetite, a fever and sometimes a rash on the arms and legs are also common in children.

Causes

Rheumatoid arthritis is once again more common in woman than men, and usually affects women over the age of forty, although it can occur at any time. Though to be triggered by a virus resulting in the immune system attacking the body's own tissues.

Herbal Home Remedies For Arthritis

Devils claw is particularly good for Osteoarthritis. Make up a tincture (see instructions on how to make a tincture) and take 1 tablespoon daily.


For pain relief try a tincture of willow bark, take one teaspoon full 3 times a day.

Or

A tincture mix using 2 parts willow bark and 1 part each of nettle and black cohosh.



Bladder wick capsules or powder may prevent the progress when used on regular bases.

Dandelion and horsetail tea is highly recommended for degenerative arthritis.

The stings in nettles are known to contain natural histamines, which are anti-inflammatory, try making a tea or adding them to a soup or broth.

Meadowsweet compress

Meadowsweet is a natural anti-inflammatory that makes wonderful arthritis home remedy when used as a simple compress; It is one of the original sources of aspirin and can help to sooth painful and swollen joints.

A compress can be made with fresh or dried meadowsweet both of which are very effective.

Add 1 1/2 fresh or 1/2 oz dried meadowsweet leaves and flowers to 1/2 a pint of freshly boiled water and leave to steep. Once cool enough to touch, soak a piece of cloth or cotton wool in the infusion, squeeze out and wrap around the painful areas.

Aromatherapy

Blend together 2 to 3 drops of chamomile or lavender oil in 3 teaspoons of almond or soya bean oil, and gently massage into the affected area.

More essential oils that have had some excellent results, all of which can be blended with the almond or soya bean oil as above, or added to a warm bath (about 8 to 10 drops per bath):

Warming and relaxing oils;

marjoram - ginger - eucalyptus - juniper - peppermint - pine

Anti-inflammatory and healing oils;

cypress - lime - myrrh - spruce - ambrette seed - lemon - rosemary

Note
For convenience, oils can be made up in larger quantities and store in a dark glass bottle with a secure stopper for up to six months.

Homeopathy

Take 6c of one of the following four times daily for 2 weeks, do not eat drink or clean your teeth for 15 minutes before or after taking.

Rhus toxicodendron for pain and stiffness that's been brought on by dampness or rest.
Bryonia for more severe pain in movement.

Honey and Cider Vinegar

Many people swear by this sweet and sour arthritis home remedy, believing that it clears the toxins from the system.

Add 1 teaspoon of runny honey and 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of hot water and drink it daily.
